What is SmartPACS and how do I use it?

Sound SMART PACS™ provides DICOM image viewing throughout the veterinary hospital utilizing the same simple, intuitive design style as the Smart DR user interface. This allows for easy access to DICOM images wherever they are needed, on any device – Microsoft, Apple, or Android. Sound Smart PACS is completely auto-updateable, so the latest features and enhancements will always be available, with no manual intervention required by the hospital staff.

What does this mean to you, SmartPACS is replacing the SoundBank and eFilm combos. As you will see below, setup is a breeze and installing the “software” is as simple as typing in a web address. The physical setup is essentially plug it in and attach a network cable. There is no monitor, keyboard, or mouse to worry about.

Because the viewer is accessed through an internet browser, it is able to be viewed on any computer system, Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, etc.

Please view the SmartPACS page for all your info on how to install and train on SmartPACS

What about Data Migrations?

SoundSafe Data Archive (formally know as Data Migration) is still occurring. We are currently offering free Data Archiving, which is outlined below.

  1. Clinics can view all their old images (and new ones) on AIS
  2. 1 year of data from existing Sound Customer’s data will be loaded to their server
    1. Must have a previous Sound system
  3. Clinics that do not have an existing Sound system will have a hard drive shipped to them and uploaded to AIS.
  4. Clinics that do not have DICOM data are not able to receive Data Archiving.

When is Phase 2 Implementing?

Phase 2 will show  up starting in 2018.

Phase 2 will integrate SmartPACS and AIS

How do I install the viewer?

See the page on our website or watch the video below:

If the clinic only has Internet Explorer on their computer, the clinic will need to download a new browser. It is Sound’s policy that we DO NOT download software from the internet. The clinic is responsible for this.

Links to the software are provided here

What browsers work with SmartPACS?

SmartPACS is supported by the following browsers.

NOTE: Internet Explorer is NOT supported

  • Chrome (preferred browser)
  • Edge (preferred browser)
  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Safari (mac)

What do I do if my clinic has a SoundBank and a Data Migration?

If your clinic still has a SoundBank, we will complete your data transfer as normal. Data transfers will happen the first day of your installation. Please set up the SoundBank Server and call Chris Lockman at 312-852-3111 or email

Why do we not use Internet Explorer?

From the Microsoft Website:

“What is end of support?

Beginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical supports and security updates. Internet Explorer 11 is the last version of Internet Explorer, and will continue to receive security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

Internet Explorer 11 offers improved security, increased performance, better backward compatibility, and support for the web standards that power today’s websites and services. Microsoft encourages customers to upgrade and stay up-to-date on the latest browser for a faster, more secure browsing experience.”
